Business Cards with Spot UV

Make a First Impression That Lasts: Spot UV Business Cards

Want a business card that people can’t stop touching? Our Spot UV cards combine distinct textures for a stunning 3D effect.
How It Works: First, choose your premium base texture:

  • Silk Lamination: A classic, ultra-smooth matte finish that feels clean and professional.

  • Suede (Soft Touch) Lamination: A plush, velvet-like texture that feels soft to the touch for the ultimate luxury experience.

Once you have selected your base, we apply a high-gloss Spot UV coating to specific areas of your design—like your logo, name, or a background pattern—to make them shine.

Why Choose Spot UV?

  • Stunning Contrast: The difference between the matte background (Silk or Suede) and the glossy highlight grabs attention immediately.

  • Premium Durability: Both lamination options make the card water-resistant and tear-resistant.

  • Memorable: It’s not just a card; it’s a tactile experience that sets you apart from the competition.

Spot UV requires two separate files for each side:

  1. The Print File: This contains your full-color design (CMYK).

  2. The Mask File: This is a black-and-white file that tells us where to put the gloss.

    • 100% Black (K): Areas you want Glossy.

    • White: Areas you want Matte (No Gloss).

We do not recommend it. Spot UV works best on larger elements like logos, bold headlines, or patterns. If the text is smaller than 10pt, the gloss might shift slightly during printing and look blurry.

The standard size in Canada is 3.5″ x 2″ (89mm x 51mm). Please include a 0.125″ bleed, making your total file size 3.625″ x 2.125″.

These are our thickest standard cards! We use 16pt cardstock, but the Silk Lamination on both sides plus the raised Spot UV brings the total thickness to approximately 18-19pt.

FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) means the paper is sourced from responsibly managed forests.
Over 90% of our cardstocks are FSC® certified, so you can feel good about printing with us.

Since Spot UV is a custom finish, we cannot print a single custom sample. However, you can visit our shop at 1798 St Matthews Ave to see examples of Spot UV cards we have printed for other clients.

How can I get my order?

You can pick up your order from the shop during the week under normal working hours. If you will need your order to be delivered with in the city or shipped outside, we will be more than happy to arrange that too.

Why do I need bleed in the file?

"Bleed" is an extra 1/8 inch (0.125") of artwork that extends beyond the edge of the card. We cut through this area to ensure your design goes all the way to the edge without leaving any white hairline borders.

Which black should I use?

For large black backgrounds: Use Rich Black (C=75 M=68 Y=67 K=90).
This creates a deep, dark black.
For small text: Use 100% Black (K=100) to keep the text sharp and crisp.

Which color format is best: RGB or CMYK?

Please design in CMYK. RGB (Red, Green, Blue) is for computer screens. CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) is for printing. Note: If you submit an RGB file, we will convert it for you, but the colors may shift slightly.

Do you check my artwork before printing?

Yes! To ensure the best quality, our pre-production team reviews every file for correct bleed and sizing.

If we find an issue: We will contact you immediately via email or phone and advise you on how to fix the file.

Design Tip: To avoid cutting off essential elements (like phone numbers or logos), please keep them at least 0.125" (3.175 mm) away from the edge. This is called the "Safety Zone." Only your background colors or images should extend to the edge.

Which file format will be the best for printing?

We prefer a high-quality PDF with bleed included. We also accept high-resolution JPG or PNG files (300 DPI).
